Nature Boys's Surfish 220F is a highly reliable floating pencil popper designed for targeting big pelagic predators both from shore and from the boat. It was developed to handle powerful targets such as tuna, amberjack and GT, while maintaining a relatively compact profile and a slim diameter in relation to its length. This feature makes it particularly effective when predators are feeding on long and slender baitfish such as saury, needlefish and small mahi-mahi. The body is made from solid hardwood, a material chosen to provide natural buoyancy, structural strength and a lively response during the fishing action. The hardwood construction allows the lure to maintain stable behavior even with energetic retrieves, powerful tackle and large-diameter braided lines, typical of big game casting. The design of the Surfish 220F is characterized by a compact cup, engineered to generate fine bubbles, controlled splashes and a less invasive surface appeal compared to traditional poppers. The basic techniques include one-pitch jerks, short jerks and long jerks, to be selected according to fish activity, feeding situations, current and sea conditions.

Short jerks
With short jerks, the lure produces a compact, reactive and controlled action, with fine bubbles and a visible rolling movement but limited forward travel. This use is ideal when you want to work a precise area thoroughly, such as over a shoal, near a feeding frenzy, or when predators follow the lure without striking immediately. The reduced forward movement allows the Surfish 220F to remain longer in the strike zone, increasing the chances of a bite.

Long jerks
With long jerks, the Surfish 220F develops a wider and more progressive movement, while still maintaining high stability and a pronounced flat-rolling action. This mode is useful when you need to cover more water, attract fish from a greater distance, or work in the presence of active predators spread over a wider area.

Continuous jerking and straight retrieve
It can also be used with continuous subsurface jerking, combined with a steady reel retrieve. In this configuration, the lure swims just below the water surface, generating a trail of microbubbles and a regular rolling action, making it very effective on fish that do not respond to classic poppers or overly noisy actions.

Fast skipping retrieve
Another very effective method is a fast skipping retrieve on the surface. In this case, the Surfish 220F works with a quick and nervous movement, imitating a fleeing baitfish. This action is particularly suitable when predators are active, hunting, or focused on fast-moving surface baitfish. Its ability to maintain a stable flight posture even with PE 8-10 braided lines makes it suitable for powerful, long casts, even in difficult conditions and against headwinds.
