Daiwa's Saltiga 2025 represents the latest evolution of the renowned SALTIGA series—an ideal reel for extreme battles in extreme environments! The new Saltiga transforms the passion, energy, and dreams of anglers into the power of a reel. A reel engineered with exceptional rigidity, capable of consistently delivering top-tier performance over long periods—even in the harshest natural conditions. But how can one exceed the expectations of anglers and turn those expectations into reality? Daiwa's answer was bold: scrap the old design. Improving the previous Saltiga 2020 wasn't enough—they had to start over from a blank page. Letting go of the past and focusing only on the future. Thus, the 2025 SALTIGA is reborn. At the heart of this rebirth lies a new design philosophy: POWER DRIVE DESIGN, a new concept for large spinning reels, developed to confidently take on the most powerful fish in the world. A completely new technology to fulfill Saltiga's mission—in other words, the very identity of the new SALTIGA.
POWER DRIVE DESIGN
Power Drive Design consists of two main technological components:
- POWER DRIVE ENGINE in the reel body
- POWER DRIVE ROTOR in the front section
[POWER DRIVE ENGINE]
Composed of two main technologies:
- Oversized Power DigiGear: A G1 Duralumin gear increased by 10% in diameter and 6% in thickness, providing more powerful torque transmission and superior durability under heavy, prolonged loads.
- Roller Power Oscillation: An oscillation system based on two ball bearings, reducing friction resistance by 30% compared to conventional systems, improving winding efficiency—even with massive fish.
These components are housed inside a Full Metal AL Monocoque Body, purposely oversized to deliver instant power, superior efficiency, and high winding strength from the very first crank.
[POWER DRIVE ROTOR]
The front section features the spherical-shaped Power Drive Rotor made of aluminum for further improved rigidity while maintaining low inertia.
- Crank Power Bail: A specially shaped bail arm with optimized angle and reinforced spring structure that guides the line perfectly to the roller and prevents accidental openings
- Tough Line Roller System: A new integrated structure between the line roller shaft and bail arm eliminates mechanical play. The PE-specific roller reduces line friction, enhancing smoothness, line release, and consistent reeling.
MONOCOQUE BODY
An advanced technology for strength and durability. Traditional reels support the main gear with two half-shells joined by screws. The monocoque body removes the side cover and integrates a high-precision plate directly into the frame—improving precision, rigidity, and waterproofing. By eliminating screw space, the gear diameter could be maximized, boosting power and durability. "Monocoque" literally means "single shell"—like a seashell—symbolizing structural strength and innovation. The new SALTIGA models adopt a full metal (aluminum) monocoque body, enabling the use of a maximum-size Tough Digigear in a compact, rigid, and lightweight housing.
New drag system (ATD-Tough and DRD)
This new design philosophy also led to a complete overhaul of the drag system:
- Up to size 14000: The ATD-Tough drag is used—an adaptive system that dynamically adjusts to the fish's force, ensuring smooth line release. The "Tough" version uses 14 alternating carbon and metal washers, ensuring superior durability and consistent performance, allowing anglers to focus solely on the fight.
- From size 18000 upward: The new DRD (Daiwa Resistance Drag) system is introduced—a drag built to withstand violent runs and prolonged fights with big fish, without overheating or wearing down. Instead of carbon washers, it uses a single plate with 8 metal rollers, ensuring up to 5x greater durability, smoother performance even at high drag settings and consistent, fluid release under extreme stress.
Improved casting performance (LC-ABS SW)
To cope with tough conditions and achieve maximum casting distance, Daiwa has completely redesigned the previous LC-ABS system, creating the new LC-ABS SW. The spool top now features a two-stage conical shape toward the spool rim, resulting in reduced line friction during release and greater distance at the end of the cast.
Complete waterproofing (Magsealed)
For extreme environments full of salt and moisture, the new Saltiga 2025 is protected with Magsealed—a magnetic oil barrier that seals gaps between the rotor and body, blocking saltwater and dust from entering. This ensures long-lasting performance and durability. Magsealed is applied at three critical points: the line roller, pinion gear, and handle shaft (both sides of the main gear), making Saltiga the only large spinning reel with complete saltwater protection.
New sizes for Giant Game Fish
In addition to the traditional lineup (8000, 10000, 14000, 18000, 20000), the new 25000 size has been introduced, designed for extreme targets like giant bluefin tuna. It offers higher line capacity, increased power, and faster retrieval speed—a direct response to the demands of top big game anglers.
