Seafloor Control's Rapier is a 6'3" full carbon solid Slow Pitch Jigging rod, developed to combine high elasticity, outstanding structural strength, and an extremely progressive bending action. It's SFC's (Seafloor Control) first full solid project and was born from the brand's extensive experience in developing technical rods dedicated to Slow Pitch Jerk fishing. Unlike traditional high-modulus tubular rods, the Rapier uses a solid construction capable of handling heavy loads while maintaining a precise elastic response and excellent sensitivity when working the jig. The blank is made from high-strength and high-modulus Toray T800 30t solid carbon, a material that allows for an extremely slim profile while remaining strong, flexible and highly resistant to breakage. The 6'3" length was selected by Seafloor Control to provide a perfect balance between jig control, progressive bending and fighting performance. The Rapier features a slightly fast taper, allowing the angler to impart precise and responsive movements to the jig while preserving the progressive action typical of a full solid rod. Once a fish is hooked, the blank can be loaded deeply, producing a wide and continuous bend that helps absorb powerful runs and maintain constant pressure throughout the fight. It's a rod designed for anglers looking for a combination of sensitivity during jig manipulation, elasticity, power under load, and maximum confidence during demanding fights, together with the build quality and finishing standards typical of Made in Japan production.
BEND - BLANK CURVATURE
One of the most distinctive features of the Rapier is its exceptional bending capability. From the tip to the rear section of the blank, Toray T800 30t solid carbon is used to provide high strength, elasticity, and excellent recovery. Despite its extremely slim diameter, the blank is designed to withstand very deep bends without losing structural stability. The flex is progressive and continuous, allowing the rod to distribute the load over a wide section of the blank instead of concentrating stress in a single point. This characteristic allows the angler to fight the fish by fully exploiting the rod's natural action, loading the blank deeply and maintaining constant pressure even during the most powerful runs. The Rapier therefore combines excellent shock absorption with a strong elastic reserve, helping the rod recover energy quickly during the fight. Its special construction also preserves a high level of responsiveness when working the jig, a characteristic not always found in traditional full solid rods. The slightly fast tip section provides a suitably crisp response during jerking actions, while the solid structure allows the blank to load progressively as pressure increases. The result is a rod with two complementary characteristics: responsive and precise when working the jig, progressive and powerful during the fight.
CROSS-SECTION STRUCTURE
The Rapier uses a full solid construction, meaning that it is completely free from the internal hollow section found in traditional tubular rods. This construction creates a blank with high strength, exceptional flexibility, and increased resistance to bending stress. One of the Rapier's most distinctive structural features is that the solid blank is built without joints from the tip all the way to the end of the rear grip. In solid carbon rods of this diameter, it is common to find a joint around the handle area, whereas Seafloor Control has chosen a continuous construction to improve the overall behavior of the rod. The absence of interruptions along the blank improves the transmission of load and feedback, creating a more uniform response throughout the rod and allowing for a smoother curve under pressure. This construction also contributes to greater resistance to breakage by eliminating structural discontinuities in the areas most heavily stressed during the fight. The solid cross-section therefore works as a single continuous element, allowing the Rapier to achieve an especially effective combination of slim diameter, elasticity, progressive bending, and structural strength—essential characteristics for a Slow Pitch Jigging rod designed to be loaded deeply during the fight.
