Nature Boys's Pelican 180F is a floating diving swimming popper designed to work just beneath the water surface, wrapping itself in the bubbles generated during the action. It's a lure developed for targeting big predators both from shore and offshore, ideal especially for Tuna, but also for yellowtail kingfish, GT and other powerful pelagic species. Its behavior in the water is the result of a long development and testing process across different fishing environments, including rocky shorelines, boat fishing and spots characterized by powerful fish and extreme conditions. The result is a highly versatile diving swimming popper, capable of combining surface appeal, sub-surface swimming action and excellent stability during the retrieve. The body is made of wood, Made in Japan, a material chosen to provide buoyancy, natural response and a lively movement in the water. The internal structure is equipped with two 10 mm tungsten weights, which help improve balance, stability and casting distance. Despite its moderate weight of approximately 60 g, the Pelican 180F offers excellent aerodynamics and allows long casts even with powerful tackle and PE8 braided lines. The construction features an internal wire frame, designed to withstand the stress of big game fishing. This configuration makes the lure suitable for demanding fights with large predators, maintaining reliability and safety even under violent pulling forces and sudden strikes, both for popping and shore plugging.
How to use? Short and medium jerks
Used with short or medium jerks, it generates a compact, responsive and highly attractive action. With each rod input, the lure dives just below the surface, produces air bubbles and develops a natural rolling movement, creating a strong visual and hydrodynamic appeal. This action is particularly effective when predators are hunting near the surface but are not attacking lures that are too invasive or noisy. The swimming action just beneath the surface, combined with the trail of bubbles, helps imitate a distressed baitfish, stimulating reaction bites even from wary fish.
How to use? Long jerks
With longer jerks, the Pelican 180F develops a wider and more progressive swimming action. The lure moves forward below the surface while maintaining a strong presence in the water, alternating decisive movements, rolling action and a very visible trail of bubbles. This type of movement is ideal for covering more water, attracting fish from greater distances and working active or hunting predators. Long jerks allow anglers to fully exploit the Pelican 180F’s ability to swim steadily just beneath the surface, maintaining a natural action even during more energetic retrieves.
How to use? Popping and stop action
Used like a classic popper, with sharper and more controlled inputs, it creates splashes, bubbles and surface attraction. Compared to a traditional popper, however, it maintains a shorter forward movement and a greater ability to stay inside the strike zone. This feature is very useful when fish follow the lure without striking immediately, or when it is necessary to work a precise area thoroughly, such as a feeding frenzy, a current line, a reef or a spot where fish activity has been seen. The stop action allows anglers to slow down the retrieve, increase the lure's time in the productive zone and trigger the strike at the moment of restart.
How to use? Linear retrieve and long swimming action
During a reel retrieve, the Pelican 180F can produce a long swimming action just beneath the surface. In this mode, the lure maintains a fluid, stable and continuous movement, accompanied by a trail of bubbles and a natural rolling action. This technique is ideal when you want to present the lure in a more regular and less aggressive way, or when fish follow noisier lures without committing to the strike. The linear retrieve allows the Pelican 180F to adapt to different targets and conditions, making it effective both on active fish and on more selective predators.
