Ocea Conquest FT

Shimano's Ocea Conquest FT represents a new evolution of the renowned Ocea Conquest series, developed specifically for Tai Rubber fishing and designed to deliver an even higher level of sensitivity, smoothness, control during the fall, and bottom-contact detection. While retaining the signature rigidity and retrieving quality of the Ocea Conquest range, the new FT model introduces a lighter, more compact, and more responsive construction, engineered to maximize free spool rotation performance and improve precision in finesse techniques, particularly in complex currents or when using lightweight Tai Rubber heads.

The brass MicroModule Gear system uses high-precision gears to ensure an exceptionally smooth and consistent rotation, while X-SHIP technology improves power transmission and provides stable retrieving performance even under load. Everything is housed within the high-rigidity HAGANE Body, designed to maintain perfect gear alignment during use and deliver a consistently solid feel. Compared with traditional Ocea Conquest models, the FT also eliminates the mechanism that synchronizes the level wind with the spool, a technical choice specifically made to reduce resistance and maximize the spool's freedom of rotation during the fall.

One of the most important features of the Ocea Conquest FT is its dedicated lightweight, small-diameter PE spool, developed to increase sensitivity during the fall. Its thin-wall construction reduces rotational inertia, while the capacity of PE #0.6 / 200 m and PE #0.8 / 150 m eliminates the need for large amounts of backing. The smaller diameter also increases the number of spool rotations as the line is released, making it easier to visually identify the exact moment when the spool stops as the Tai Rubber reaches the bottom. This allows the angler to begin retrieving immediately, reducing the risk of snagging and improving fishing efficiency even when using particularly lightweight heads.

The FTB (Finesse Tune Brake) system takes this concept even further by removing the braking unit directly from the spool, helping to further reduce rotational inertia. Adjustment is carried out through an external dial, allowing the braking force to be quickly adapted according to current strength, head weight, and fishing technique. During the fall, the brake can be increased toward MAX to control excess line caused by the current or reduced toward MIN for a freer fall and greater sensitivity to changes in current and bottom contact. The system is also particularly effective when under casting, providing a high level of spool control while reducing the risk of line trouble.

Ergonomics and handling have also been extensively optimized. Compared with the Ocea Conquest 200, the FT model is approximately 60 g lighter and features a more compact body, designed to sit closer to the rod and improve palming comfort during long fishing sessions. The double handle measures 55 mm per side, for an overall length of 110 mm, providing increased leverage during retrieval, while the paddle knobs combine sensitivity with ease of use. The result is an ultra-premium Tai Rubber reel that combines the traditional power and smoothness of the Ocea Conquest series with an exceptionally responsive and sensitive spool, developed especially for finesse Tai Rubber fishing and for all situations where precise bottom detection becomes critical.
