What is the Japanese fishing technique called OTOSHIKOMI?
Otoshikomi is a vertical boat fishing technique that allows anglers to catch small forage fish with a rig and immediately use them, while still alive, as bait. After hooking horse mackerel or small mackerel, the rig is lowered towards predators holding deeper in the water, such as amberjack, dentex and groupers. The natural movement of the live bait makes this technique particularly effective for targeting big predatory fish.
