Shimano's Calcutta Conquest DC represents the latest evolution of the renowned high-end round baitcasting reel, developed to deliver an even higher level of smoothness, power, casting accuracy, and control. This new generation combines the signature rigidity of the Calcutta Conquest metal body with Shimano's latest technologies dedicated to retrieve performance and casting, resulting in an extremely refined and versatile reel capable of maintaining outstanding performance both during delicate retrieves and under heavier loads.
The MicroModule Gear system uses high-precision gears to ensure an exceptionally smooth and consistent rotation, while Infinity Drive technology reduces internal resistance and provides a lighter and more powerful retrieve even under load. These technologies are complemented by Silent Drive, which minimizes play, vibration, and micro-imperfections within the drivetrain, further improving the feeling of solidity and continuity during handle rotation. Everything is housed inside the traditional high-rigidity round body, designed to maintain precise gear alignment and excellent stability during use.
One of the main innovations of the 2026 model is the Magnum Light Spool IV, designed to improve rotational stability through a specific spool geometry that promotes a more balanced line distribution. By reducing oscillation during rotation, the spool can perform at its full potential, providing smoother casts, longer casting distances, and greater accuracy, including low and tight trajectories. On the 100 size, the spool diameter has also increased from Ø33 mm to Ø34 mm, helping to increase the amount of line retrieved with each turn of the handle.
The new I-DC5 electronic braking system introduces an even wider and more intuitive range of adjustment, based on 3 modes – L, M, and H – combined with 5 braking levels, for a total of 15 different settings. Unlike the previous generation, the adjustment is no longer directly linked to the type of line being used, allowing anglers to set the braking force according to the fishing situation, lure, and casting style. This configuration makes it possible to quickly switch from long and powerful casts to precise, low-trajectory presentations, while maintaining excellent spool control and reducing the risk of backlash.
Ergonomics have also been completely refined. The more compact and lower-profile body compared to the previous Calcutta Conquest DC positions the spool closer to the rod, improving grip and reducing thumb interference during casting. The increased freedom of wrist movement makes the reel particularly effective for technical and highly accurate casting. The result is a flagship round baitcasting reel that combines the traditional solidity of the Calcutta Conquest series with an extremely advanced casting system and exceptional retrieve quality.
101MG LEFT
The 101MG LEFT features a lower gear ratio, designed primarily for lures worked with a continuous and controlled retrieve. It is especially suitable for slowly retrieved crankbaits, spinnerbaits, and wire baits, where maintaining consistent line tension without making the connection with the lure too rigid is essential. The progressive retrieve also suits the characteristic suction bites of Black Bass, allowing the fish to take the lure more naturally. During the hookset, keeping the handle turning also helps larger single hooks penetrate effectively. This is the version for anglers who prioritize control, torque, and retrieve precision.
101HG LEFT
The 101HG LEFT features a faster gear ratio, ideal for more dynamic techniques and situations where quickly recovering line and maintaining a high fishing pace are essential. The combination of a high-rigidity body, strong torque, and higher retrieve speed makes it particularly versatile with spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, frogs, and vertically presented worms. It is especially effective around vegetation, submerged structure, and cover, where maintaining immediate control of the fish after the hookset is important. The higher speed also makes it suitable for several saltwater applications, including boat fishing for Sea Bass. This is the version best suited to anglers looking for responsiveness, speed, and versatility.
