2-Speed System - Pushing the Limits of the 3000 Class
The 2-Speed System is one of the key innovations introduced on the BeastMaster 3000II, offering two different gear ratios to suit specific fishing requirements. Speed Range prioritises fast retrieval, reaching a maximum speed of 215 m/min, ideal for quickly retrieving rigs, sinkers and lures from deep water. Power Range is designed for heavier loads, delivering an outstanding 25 kg of practical, continuous winding power to handle large fish or particularly heavy rigs. Switching between Speed Range and Power Range is achieved through a mechanical system that selects between two different gear ratios. The motor continues running during the change, ensuring a smooth, uninterrupted transition without losing line tension. This allows anglers to use speed for routine retrieval and switch immediately to maximum power whenever the situation demands it.
25 kg Maximum Drag
The BeastMaster 3000II delivers a maximum drag of 25 kg, an exceptionally high figure for a 3000-class electric reel. This power provides firm control when fighting big predators, limiting line release even under very heavy loads. Its maximum drag matches that of the BeastMaster 9000 and is 25% higher than that of the BeastMaster 3000EJ. The rigid HAGANE Body and reinforced internal construction allow the reel to withstand these high stresses while maintaining stability and reliability. Combined with the 2-Speed System’s Power Range, the powerful drag allows anglers to tackle fish in the 20 kg class with greater confidence—situations that have traditionally pushed electric reels of this size to their limits.
Electric Jigging Compatibility - EJ Mode
The BeastMaster 3000II fully supports Electric Jigging and incorporates a sophisticated EJ Advanced Mode, developed to provide more precise control over jig action. Three jerk intensity levels can be selected: H (High), M (Middle) and L (Low), allowing anglers to deliberately vary the range and aggressiveness of the action. The system also allows retrieval speed, movement duration and pause time to be set, providing precise control over the falling phase as well. Manual Jerk Mode activates electric retrieval while the PICK UP button is held down, while Auto Jerk Mode allows SPEED, MOVE and STOP to be programmed for automatic operation. This advanced control brings electric jigging closer to the feel and precision of manual jigging while retaining all the benefits of motorised retrieval.
Mechanical Brake - An Often Overlooked Source of Control
The BeastMaster 3000II features a 1,000 g mechanical brake, more than three times as powerful as the one fitted to the BeastMaster 3000EJ. The system applies controlled resistance to the spool, allowing anglers to manage the rig's descent more precisely, even when using particularly heavy sinkers. This is especially useful for squid fishing, deep-water fishing and otoshikomi techniques, where control during the drop can directly affect fishing effectiveness. The adjustment knob enables quick, precise changes, also reducing the risk of backlash when using size 200-go sinkers or heavier (over 750 g). During electric retrieval, the mechanical brake’s resistance does not place a direct load on the motor, allowing the reel to maintain high performance even with the brake engaged.
Reinforced Gear System
Shimano's reinforced gear system has been designed to withstand the power generated by the BeastMaster 3000II and ensure high reliability even in the most demanding conditions. The reduction gears are supported by ball bearings, significantly increasing the strength and durability of the entire drivetrain. Paired with the powerful GIGA-MAX MOTOR, this system delivers strong retrieval performance while maintaining smoothness and stability under load. The internal structure is engineered to handle the high forces produced by Power Range and the 25 kg drag without compromising precision or consistent operation. One Pitch Distance Display
The One Pitch Distance Display function shows the length of line retrieved with each individual jerk on the digital display. The system is compatible with Manual Jerk Mode, Auto Jerk Mode and Advanced Mode. The value updates automatically after each retrieval movement. This information allows anglers to identify the exact jerk distance that triggered a strike, making it easier to reproduce and share an effective electric jigging pattern.
Motor-Clutch Synchronisation
During electric retrieval, switching the clutch to OFF automatically stops the motor. This eliminates motor noise during the drop and improves control in more delicate situations. When the clutch is switched back to ON, electric retrieval resumes immediately. The quick response allows anglers to alternate smoothly between dropping and retrieving without additional input. This makes rig management more intuitive and effective when using vertical fishing techniques.
Precision Speed Control
The BeastMaster 3000II features an exceptionally precise speed control system with 31 settings. Speed in the middle of the adjustment range has been reduced to approximately half that of previous systems. This allows very fine adjustments, even during slower retrieval. Such precise control is particularly useful when fish respond to subtle, consistent lure movements. It also allows anglers to adapt retrieval speed quickly to the current and fishing depth.
Electronic Constant-Speed Control
The electronic constant-speed control system keeps retrieval as uniform as possible. Speed remains stable even as the amount of line on the spool changes. This produces a more consistent, easily repeatable lure action throughout the retrieve. The function is particularly useful for techniques in which maintaining a steady speed is essential. The system operates when precision speed control is activated.

Tetsuya Takahashi highlighted how Power Range allows anglers to tackle grouper and other large predators in the 15–20 kg class using a compact 3000-class reel. He particularly appreciated its ability to deliver substantial power without retrieving fish too aggressively, reducing the risk of pulled hooks during demanding fights. Speed Range proved highly effective when rigs needed to be retrieved quickly and repositioned over the fishing area. Tatsuya Matsuda highlighted the sense of substantial reserve power provided by Power Range, even under very heavy loads. Switching between the two modes was judged to be quick, intuitive and particularly effective thanks to the ability to change gear without stopping the motor. The 2-Speed System’s mechanical lever also provides clear, positive feedback, reducing the risk of accidental shifts. According to Shimano’s testers, the BeastMaster 3000II is therefore more than simply a reel capable of retrieving heavy loads: it is a tool designed to bring demanding fights to a successful conclusion with greater control and confidence.
