Evergreen's Amazon is a floating Big Pencil Bait specifically designed for targeting large Sea Bass, Black Bass, and Pike! It features custom-designed color patterns and a large body shape that perfectly imitates big baitfish. Originally developed as a one-off, personal model by Bass Pro Staff member Katsutaka Imae for a fishing trip to the Amazon, the lure later proved highly effective in Japanese freshwater environments against big bass, which led to its commercial production. Today, due to strong demand from seasoned anglers, a special saltwater-oriented color lineup has been released—though it also performs excellently in freshwater fishing.
Technical and Functional Features
- In-water behavior: Despite being made of plastic, it features a finely tuned buoyancy that makes it grip the water much like a wooden plug. Combined with its large body, this results in strong water displacement similar to that of a swimbait, making it highly enticing to predators.
- Responsiveness: The large body reacts surprisingly well to rod movements, performing quick dog-walks, wide lateral slides (skiing), and surface splashes (splashing) that perfectly mimic the erratic movements of fleeing baitfish.
- Sound effect: The Cracker Ball Sound System produces a sharp metallic "Kachiin!" sound every time the internal rear moving weight strikes the fixed front weight. This sound is easily detectable even in wide open areas or bait-dense environments, increasing the lure's acoustic visibility.
- Casting performance: Thanks to its heavy weight and the absence of a diving lip (as typical of pencil baits), air resistance is minimal, allowing for exceptional casting distance—ideal for targeting wary fish from afar.
Advanced Integrated Systems
- C.B.S. (Counter Balance System): A counter-weight configuration that enhances balance, allowing for quick responses to angler input and producing visual flashes (color and reflection changes) as the lure tilts.
- Cracker Ball Sound System: A combination of fixed and movable weights inside the belly that creates a distinctive, sharp metallic sound during jerking motions—highly attractive to predatory fish.
The lure comes equipped with three size #1 treble hooks and #3 split rings.

By popular demand from Masaya Onuma, also known as Onuman, a member of Evergreen's pro seabass team, a new line of color options has been introduced featuring a body made from a natural milky-white ABS material with high buoyancy and hardness, commonly referred to as "bone material."
Thanks to the increased buoyancy, water displacement and splash effects during action are slightly enhanced. In addition, the increased hardness makes the lure's distinctive "Kachiin!" sound—produced every time the lure swings its head side to side—even sharper and more resonant.
